UK Global Talent Visa for business and strategy leaders

Coding is not a universal requirement for the Digital Technology route. The current Tech Nation skills guidance includes qualifying business skills such as digital product, commercial and investment expertise.

Official skills and document sources checked 30 July 2026.

Quick answerA non-coding applicant can fall within scope when the work and evidence show qualifying leadership or potential leadership in digital technology. General corporate strategy without a clear digital-technology link is insufficient.

Can a non-coding business leader fall within the route?

The official skills guidance covers qualifying business applicants as well as technical applicants. The documents should establish the digital-technology context, the applicant's individual contribution and the relevant published requirements.

What evidence should you prepare?

  • Digital-product decisions and outcomes attributed to your leadership.
  • Commercial, growth, investment or market-entry work in a product-led technology business.
  • Board, investor, customer or senior-colleague corroboration of your individual contribution.
  • External recognition, speaking, mentoring or industry contribution where it maps to the criteria.

Every claim should be accurate, attributable and supported by the document itself. Redact confidential and unrelated third-party personal information.

Which document risks should you check?

  • Generic strategy or operations material with no digital-technology connection.
  • Revenue or fundraising figures presented only at company level.
  • Job-title seniority used as a substitute for evidence of recognised leadership.
  • Recommendation letters that describe character or duties without specific contribution and impact.

What is the official document set?

GOV.UK requires three recommendation letters, a CV and supporting evidence documents within the published limits. Confirm the current list and format immediately before applying.
